Sac-Joaquin Top 5: TD catch kings

Last week on the FOX 40 Final Quarter high school football show, hosts Jim Crandell and Kristina Werner revealed a list of the top five single-season touchdown catch totals by one player in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history, according to CalHiSports.com. It has been inspired by Stockton McNair’s Derrion Grim.

Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. Cole Thompson (Folsom) 34
This was a state record total that Thompson set last season in the Bulldogs’ 16-0 season.

2. Derrion Grim (McNair, Stockton) 31
This was Grim’s total coming into last week’s game against Bear Creek that ended up being a forfeit win and no stats. He still needs three more to tie state record heading into Saturday’s D2 section playoff game at Sac High.

3. Tyler Trosin (Folsom) 27
This total is for 15 games from Tyler’s senior season in 2010 when Folsom won D2 state title.

4. Matt Barnes (Del Campo) 26
Yeah, that Matt Barnes. He caught that many TD passes in 12 games in 1997.

5. Tyler Trosin (Folsom) 25
This total is for 13 games from Tyler’s junior season in 2009.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be the top five NFL quarterbacks from the Sac-Joaquin Section. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region, including fan favorite Yuba City at 10-0 Patterson. Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
