All Softball State Records Updated

Here is a look at some of the teams and some of the individuals from the 2022 season that are now appearing in these state records. All listed in alphabetical order.

TEAMS

Capistrano Valley Christian (SJ Capistrano)
In 27 games, Capo Valley Christian smacked the ball around for a .521 batting average. The mark, achieved by going 378 for 726 in official at-bats according to its MaxPreps page, is a new state record. The team also had 86 doubles and 23 triples in an amazing season. University Prep of Victorville also made it onto the all-time lists by hitting .449 plus 78 doubles.

East Nicolaus (Nicolaus)
Head coach Neil Stinson’s club stretched its league winning streak to 57 games and won its 11th straight league title. Both totals are now high enough to go onto the all-time state lists.

Oaks Christian (Westlake Village)
There will be debates about Oaks vs St. Francis for years to come (especially with no state final that would have decided it). For the Lions, they won 31 straight games during the season to get one listing and they hit 53 homers for another.

St. Francis (Mountain View)
The Lancers, who went 31-2 and were the State Team of the Year, earned many listings not just for 2022 but also for 2021. They had 385 hits and had a .434 batting average. They also hit 58 homers in 2022 for the fourth-highest total in state history. In addition, St. Francis has gained listings for doubles (70) and a 57-2 record over the past two seasons.

Sutter
The big number for the Huskies is their 55-1 record over the last two seasons.

INDIVIDUALS

Giselle Aguirre (Caruthers)
The leadoff hitter for the Blue Raiders, who won a CIF SoCal regional title and played 33 games, was a run-scoring machine. In fact, the sophomore finished with 70 runs for the season, just three away from the all-time state record.

Hailey Davis (Boron)
She was a junior for the Bobcats last season and got onto lists for 12 RBI in one game and two grand slams. Hailey also capped her season with 66 RBI in 22 games to gain entry into another state record list.

Natalie Gleason
(Capistrano Valley Christian)
Her team’s totals are mentioned above. As an individual, our State Small Schools Player of the Year finished with state record list qualifying totals of 71 RBI and 64 runs scored.

Dani Jackman
(University Prep, Victorville)
The sophomore from last season knocked in 76 runs and now ranks 4th on the all-time state list.

Carly Knoles (Duarte)
She came up huge with 68 hits for the Falcons last season, a total that landed her onto that all-time state list.

Sofia Mujica (Granite Hills, El Cajon)
In just two years, the junior to be for next season will be starting out with 32 career homers. Mujica had a state record list mark of 17 last spring. She only needs nine more to tie the San Diego Section record of 41 set in 2008 by Oceanside’s Trina Harrison.

Jessica Oakland (St. Francis, Mountain View)
Ms. Softball State Player of the Year tied for third in state history by hammering 21 homers for the Lancers. He also hit 19 as a junior and ended with 44 for her career. She finished tied for 14th on the all-time list, but came up short of the CCS record of 47 set in 2011 by Breana Kostreba of Aptos. Teammate Sydney Stewart also is on the updated state list with 31 career homers.

Miranda Pozos (Bloomington)
She’ll be back next season for the Bruins. Her junior season accomplishment, however, of getting 28 straight hits established a state record and will be almost impossible to duplicate. No. 2 on the all-time list is 21.

Randi Roelling (Central Catholic, Modesto)
The Cal committed Roelling had a memorable junior season for the Raiders. It takes 404 season strikeouts to get onto the all-time state list. Randi ended with 414. She tied the same total of 414 set in 2015 by UCLA softball standout Rachel Garcia when she was at Highland of Palmdale in 2015. Roelling also struck out 21 batters in a seven-inning game against Lodi (CC won 7-0).

Emmie Walker (Coalinga)
She’d get an award in our book for stealing bases. In 28 games last spring, Walker stole 66 bases for the Horned Toads, which is one of the highest reported single season totals in several years.
