Both No. 1 De La Salle and No. 9 Long Beach Poly (playing next week) win by same 48-0 score. It’s not an upset that No. 8 Serra of Gardena edged No. 6 Bishop Amat, but it sure was that No. 10 Alemany and No. 11 Bellarmine both lost. Bellarmine’s loss also gets the CIF bowl juices going as visions of a Folsom-Clayton Valley rematch come more into focus.

1. De La Salle (Concord) 5-1
Defeated San Ramon Valley of Danville 48-0. Although SRV has only won once, some of the games against top-ranked teams have been competitive. DLS put this one away early. It was 42-0 at halftime.

2. Centennial (Corona) 6-0
Defeated M.L. King of Riverside 47-14. Kind of a ho-hum win for Huskies and may be like this until Norco game in November.

3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 6-0
Defeated No. 19 Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 62-14. Hard to believe but the Eagles actually led 14-7 before a dizzying display of defense, defensive TDs, return TDs and then offensive fireworks took over.

4. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 6-0
Defeated No. 20 Lutheran of Orange 49-35. Frosh QB J.T. Daniels was reported at 454 yards passing. It wasn’t the same as when OLu played DLS or Centennial, but first three in state this year so far seem pretty far in front of everyone else. We’ll see if Monarchs truly are at that level next week since they are playing St. John Bosco.

5. Folsom 6-0
Defeated Nevada Union of Grass Valley 56-7. That’s 37 straight regular season wins and 23 straight wins overall for the Bulldogs (both marks lead the state).

6. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 5-2
LOST to No. 8 Serra of Gardena 41-38. A spectacular 50-yard TD run by QB Khalil Tate for Serra in late minutes spoiled it for Amat. The Lancers were down early, came back to take the lead but lost at the finish. Their other loss was also by three points to No. 4 Mater Dei.

7. Mission Viejo 7-0
Defeated Dana Hills of Dana Point 77-0. There will be some tougher games coming up for the Diablos in the South Coast League, including Tesoro and San Juan Hills.

8. Serra (Gardena) 6-1
Defeated No. 6 Bishop Amat of La Puente 41-38. With many former Serra players on the sidelines to show support (UCLA on a bye, USC played Thursday and Carolina Panthers on bye so Bene Benwikere could come), the Cavs put on a show. Would they have lost 52-13 to No. 2 Centennial if Khalil Tate had played?

9. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 5-1
Defeated Compton 48-0. Strange that the Jackrabbits won by same score and led at halftime (42-0) by same score as next week’s opponent, No. 1 De La Salle. Winless Compton, however, not quite same as San Ramon Valley.

10. Alemany (Mission Hills) 5-1
LOST to Chaminade of West Hills 43-40. Shootout style game wasn’t expected the way the Warriors had been playing on defense. Chaminade also was coming in after big loss to Loyola. Result plus Serra beating Amat clearly puts Serra in Mission League front-runner role.

11. Bellarmine (San Jose) 4-1
LOST to Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 35-28. This probably is a bigger upset than Chaminade over Alemany because Mitty entered the night after a loss to Archbishop Riordan of San Francisco while the Bells had beaten state-ranked Serra of San Mateo.

12. Narbonne (Harbor City) 4-2
Defeated Washington Prep of Los Angeles 73-6. As expected, Gauchos return to L.A. City Section competition was a breeze. Their one-point loss to Serra in overtime also is looking better.

13. Clayton Valley (Concord) 5-1
Defeated Mt. Diablo of Concord 56-0. After Friday’s developments in the CCS (no disrespect to anybody left who hasn’t lost yet this season) it’ll be a shock if there is a team that goes onto the board for the CIF NorCal bowl games from the CCS that finishes unbeaten. Since it also isn’t going to be a shock if the Uglies don’t lose the rest of the season (including the NCS D2 title), their position at No. 3 for Northern California behind DLS and Folsom now may not change one bit. And even if Elk Grove eventually moves in front of Clayton Valley, is it too early to think about a Folsom-Clayton Valley rematch in the NorCal D1AA bowl game? Not at all. Odds are now really high that’s going to happen.

14. Mission Hills (San Marcos) 6-0
Defeated Oceanside 45-0. It wasn’t much of a showdown between this year’s San Diego Section frontrunner and last year’s Open Division champion. Nehemiah McFarlin broke loose early and often in an impressive outing from the running back position.

15. Helix (La Mesa) 4-1
Defeated Steele Canyon of Spring Valley 41-6. It was a fourth straight impressive win by the Highlanders, who should stay right behind Mission Hills next week both locally and in state.

16. Elk Grove 6-0
Defeated Jesuit of Carmichael 63-14. Coming after their 42-7 win over Grant of Sacramento that sent the Pacers tumbling from No. 8 in the state down to the bubble, the Thundering Herd did not let up. Ryan Robards only scored three times, but QB Jayden Machado hooked up with Gavin Reinwald for three TD passes and had another one as well.

17. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 7-0
Defeated Thousand Oaks 48-7. As far as eye-openers go, this one was up there for Friday night. Thousand Oaks was 6-0 as well and features Cal-bound QB Max Gilliam. Gil’Scott Jackson scored five times to lead the Lions.

18. Westlake (Westlake Village) 5-1
Defeated Paraclete (Lancaster) 49-28. The Warriors probably will get a tough test next week vs. Newbury Park and if they can get past St. Bonaventure on Oct. 30, they’d set up that huge showdown with Oaks Christian and former head coach Jim Benkert the following week.

19. Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 4-2
LOST to No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 62-14. The Eagles could still bounce back from this defeat to finish second in the Trinity League. It just could be that Bosco is that good this season.

20. Lutheran (Orange) 3-3
LOST to No. 4 Mater Dei of Santa Ana 49-35. Yes, the Lancers were in the game until the final minutes. And no, this loss probably isn’t going to be enough to drop them out of next week’s written up teams.

21. Foothill (Pleasanton) 6-0
Defeated Livermore 42-7. Isaiah Floyd had a big game for the Falcons with 15 carries for 189 yards, according to one tweet. We’ll finally find out a lot more about them next week vs. Monte Vista of Danville (which has lost only to Clayton Valley and that was in a close game).

22. Loyola (Los Angeles) 6-1
Defeated Crespi of Encino 35-6. Head coach Marvin Sanders’ team won easily over the Celts, but it helps the ranking a lot more with Chaminade knocking off No. 10 Alemany since the Cubs beat Chaminade 31-13 in their previous outing.

23. San Juan Hills (SJ Capistrano) 6-0
Did not play. The Stallions had a bye. They’re up against El Toro and Mission Viejo in the next two weeks.

24. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 5-1
LOST to Servite of Anaheim 39-38. The Friars, who were 2-3 but lost to Bishop Amat, De La Salle and Bishop Gorman, rallied to knock off the Lions in a Trinity League opener. Servite scored the game-winning points with just six seconds left.

25. Valley Christian (San Jose) 4-1
LOST to St. Francis of Mountain View 21-16. A punishing ground game in the first half allowed the Lancers to take a 14-0 lead and they held on in the second half. With No. 11 Bellarmine also losing and St. Francis improving to 5-0, look for the Lancers to be coming off of the bubble in a few days but surging Archbishop Riordan of San Francisco could be higher.

Time for those Heritage Patriots to move into the top 25! They really are that good. Averaging 40+ a game (mostly 1st half as starters have been pulled in every game) and giving up only 14 in 2 games. Starters have only given up one TD this season. All other points scored against this team were against 2s and 3S in garbage time.

We are, but in our view Ridgeview still has to be behind Redlands East Valley and neither one probably is quite yet ready for Top 25.

Sorry, but St. Mary’s (Stockton) is much better than Sonora or Turlock.
