This one includes two teams from last season placed fairly high — one in the top five and the other in the top 15. We also have added three more teams from the first 25...

State Stat Stars of the Week

We’ve all heard of perfect passers in a single game, but for running backs could the equivalent be six carries with all six going for touchdowns? One of those on this week’s honor roll did just that. We also continue to follow hard-to-fathom seasons by sophomore QB Donny Fitzgerald from Coachella Valley of Thermal (41...

Blue-Grey Combine Breakout Players

It actually was a blue-gray mix in the skies above the Blue-Grey All-American Football Combine held on Sunday at Freedom High in Oakley. Sure, it’s not the same as one of the many Nike camps we’ve been to dozens of times over the years, but you get to know the smaller group of players better […]

Preseason Softball State Top 20

Defending State Team of the Year Mission Viejo is a no-brainer pick to start the 2017 season in a familiar position at No. 1 in the state. With the new competitive-equity Division I playoff format in the CIF Southern Section, however, it’s going to be tougher than ever for the Diablos to run the table […]

FINAL, Expanded Top 50 (No. 1-20)

More reasons given for De La Salle staying fourth and St. Mary’s staying sixth. In other final moves, Helix flip-flops with Folsom at No. 11, Vista Murrieta and CIF state champ Madison both come up five spots and Calabasas ends up at No. 20. If you can’t see this post, it’s easy to become a...

FB: Top 10 Rankings Update

Narbonne drops from No. 5 down to No. 9 after loss to Cathedral Catholic. The biggest question was which team to list No. 10 in place of Calabasas, a team still playing or one that has lost in a higher division?

CIF NorCal Bowl Board No. 8

Big move of the week is switching Sanger and Selma from the north to the south and vice-versa and we really liked how it balanced out both boards. Both teams still have to win Central Section titles, however, and Sanger will have to battle a surging team from Ridgeview of Bakersfield. We also forecast where...

FB: Top 10 Rankings Update

Narbonne and De La Salle are now up to No. 4 and No. 5 after the CIF Southern Section Division I semifinals. There’s a good chance, though, that Rancho Cucamonga will come back up and get back into the top five for the final rankings.

FB: Top 10 Rankings Update

Mission Viejo of course stays in the top 10 after having its 39-game win streak snapped by Rancho Cucamonga in CIFSS D1 playoffs. Two-time defending CIF Open Division state champ De La Salle also creeps back up to No. 6.

CIF NorCal Bowl Board No. 6

The fun part of these boards that it’s possible to run them in different combinations to see how they shape up. This week, we went back to using Bellarmine of San Jose as one of the projected three CCS Open Division champions. Next week, maybe we’ll put Sanger in the south and Bakersfield Christian in...
