Sac-Joaquin Top 5: Single Game TDs

We are happy to say that for the fifth straight year the CalHiSports.com web site and Cal-Hi Sports has been part of the weekly Final Quarter high school football show on Friday nights on the FOX 40 station in Sacramento.

On last week’s show, we revealed our list for the Top 5 individuals in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history for scoring the most touchdowns in a single game. Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. (tie) Joe Silva (Gustine) 9
He did this way back in 1952 against LeGrand and it’s still tied for third in state history.

1. (tie) James Montgomery (Cordova) 9
He is now the running backs coach at Sac State and had his nine TD game in 2004 against Vacaville.

2. (tie) Donald Hair (McClatchy) 8
It wasn’t a hair-brained idea giving him the ball when he scored eight times in 1984 game against Oakmont.

2. (tie) Mark Jenkins (Pleasant Grove) 8
Big lineman Arik Armstead (now of the San Francisco 49ers) helped block for Jenkins when he scored his 8 TDs in 2010 game vs Roseville.

2. (tie) Zach Zuniga (Vintage, Napa) 8
We mentioned the game last week when Zuniga scored 8 TDs, which was an 80-56 win by the Crushers in 2009 over Armijo.

The 30-minute show is twice a long as any other Friday night high school football show in the Sacramento market and is returning to Friday at 11 p.m. time slot after being aired on Thursday night last week due to all the first-round section playoff games that were played on that night.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be a look at the top five single season touchdown totals for a player in section history. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region, including the Fan Favorite game of the week. Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
