CIF Central Sec: 7 TDs for Aguilar

Here’s some record updates and highlights of top players & teams from the recent week as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.

FOOTBALL

Junior quarterback Alex Aguilar of Shafter accounted for seven touchdowns in a 55-26 win by the Generals over Chavez of Delano. Aguilar passed for five touchdowns and 324 yards, completing 13 of 19 passes, and rushed for 179 yards and two TDs on just 11 carries.

Senior fullback Gonzalo Rodriguez from Golden West of Visalia, a three year starter, became the all-time leading career rusher for Visalia schools after he rushed for 181 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 47-14 triumph vs. Mt. Whitney. Rodriguez now has rushed for 4,254 career yards and has 58 career touchdowns.

Senior David Alcantar of Tulare Western rushed for a game high of 209 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns, including one from 95 yards out (which is the third longest in school history), in a 57-6 win over Monache of Porterville. Alcantar also returned a kickoff for 90 yards.

Junior quarterback Trent Tompkins led section No.1 Central of Fresno past Clovis West 40-13. Tompkins passed for 325 yards on 20 of 28 with two touchdowns (no interceptions) and rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown. Receiver Jacob Torrez had seven receptions for 181 yards and one touchdown.

Chris Acosta of Kerman scored a career high of five touchdowns, one on a 18-yard reception and four on runs of 7, 28, 9 & 21 yards, and ended with 25 carries for 185 yards in a 56-26 win over visiting Liberty Madera Ranchos. Teammate Sean Chambers, a D1 recruit, also had a stellar night by going 10 of 11 for 221 yards passing and three touchdowns and rushed for 146 yards on 14 carries and scored two touchdowns.

In a 62-0 romp past Mission Oak of Tulare, Kazmeir Allen scored five touchdowns on runs of 6, 8, 28, 63, & 19 yards and now has 48 for the season and 97 for his career, 5th best in section history. Allen also rushed for a game high of 189 yards on 14 carries and now has 4,742 career yards.

Imanol Arrendondo of Caruthers scored a career high of five touchdowns on runs of 39, 22, 47, 11 & 65 yards on 10 carries and had 217 yards in a 54-28 win over Orosi. Chris Puga also had a fine game for the unbeaten Blue Raiders by rushing for 172 yards on two touchdowns. Jerry Huerta did all the scoring for Orosi by rushing for 215 yards on 10 carries and four touchdowns on runs of 36, 11, 26 & 8 yards.

Junior Marcus Fulcher of Fresno Bullard had a career high of four touchdowns on runs 6, 7, 13 and a 72 yard reception in a 32-24 triumph over San Joaquin Memorial of Fresno. Fulcher also rushed for 197 yards on 38 carries. Quarterback Kalei Acfalle of Bullard had a nice game as well by passing for 257 yards and two touchdowns.

Sophomore 5-foot-9, 240-pound bowling ball Leauauna Laulu Jr. of West Bakersfield scored a career high of four touchdowns and rushed for 163 yards in a 47-25 win over Golden Valley of Bakersfield.

GIRLS TENNIS

Frank Thiessen, the legendary coach at Bakersfield Christian, had his season come to an end against Buchanan 6-3 in the section playoff quarterfinals. Thiessen’s team finished the season with an 18-5 record and pushed his amazing career record in all sports combined to 1,306-319. He’s been a coach in the section in boys and girls basketball and tennis.
