Sac-Joaquin Sec Top 5: Career WRs

We are happy to announce that for the fifth straight year the CalHiSports.com web site and Cal-Hi Sports will be part of the weekly Final Quarter high school football show on Friday nights on the FOX 40 station in Sacramento.

On last week’s show, we revealed our list for the Top 5 wide receivers in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section as they rank in our state record book for career touchdown catches. Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. Tyler Trosin (Folsom)
He had 56 for Bulldogs between 2008 and 2010 and is still No. 7 on all-time state list. His senior year was the sophomore year for Folsom QB Jake Browning.

2. Darrion Grim (McNair. Stockton)
In just 15 games as a junior and senior at McNair (2015-2015), he caught 44 TD passes. Now playing at Fresno State.

3. Matt Barnes (Del Campo, Fair Oaks)
Yes, that Matt Barnes of the NBA. He had 43 TD catches in 1996-97. They all weren’t just jump balls in the end zone, either.

4. Josiah DeGuara (Folsom)
He played with Jake Browning in his first two years and ended in 2015 with 42 TD catches.

5. (tie) Zach Moreno (LeGrand) & Cole Thompson (Folsom)
They each had 39 TD catches. Moreno played at LeGrand from 2012-13 while Thompson was at Folsom in 2013-14. Thompson had 34 of his TD catches in 2014 when he set state single-season record (later tied by Grim in 2015).

Polls also will once again be conducted on the FOX 40 website for the Papa Murphy’s Fan Favorite Game of the Week. The 30-minute show is twice a long as any other Friday night high school football show in the Sacramento market.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be a look at the top five baseball players in section history who also played football when they were in high school. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region, including the Fan Favorite game of the week. Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
