Super 8 Baseball State Ranks Update

No. 2 behind Buchanan changes again after Orange Lutheran returns home from North Carolina as the NHSI champions but loses in next game to St. John Bosco. Thousand Oaks and Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks also get huge bumps to No. 9 and No. 10.

NOTE: Our updated State Top 20 with lists of many other teams on the bubble will be posted each week but will require Gold Club membership to see for the rest of the season. Our breakdowns and analysis of what’s coming up and what’s already happened can’t be matched anywhere else because we’ve been following the statewide scene years and years longer than any other media source. 1. (1) Buchanan (Clovis) 16-0
Bears keep on winning in CIF Central Section, but will face tough teams next week at the National Classic in Orange County.

2. (5) Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) 12-1
Broncos’ head coach Sam Blalock recently passed Guy Anderson (Cordova of Rancho Cordova) as the No. 2 winningest in state history. Senior Brian Marquez also pitched a no-hitter last week.

3. (6) Eastlake (Chula Vista) 12-1
One of three wins by the Titans last week avenged their only loss to Grossmont and they beat previous state No. 18 Granite Hills twice.

4. (2) Huntington Beach 11-2
Now that Oilers and Orange Lutheran both have two losses, the head-to-head win comes back into play.

5. (3) Lutheran (Orange) 11-2
If the team had not lost to St. John Bosco on Monday, it obviously would have been second in this week’s rankings behind Buchanan. Still, huge accomplishment to win NHSI.

6. (9) Chatsworth 13-2
The last three results we have for the Chancellors prior to Wednesday were all shutout wins.

7. (4) South Hills (West Covina) 11-3
The Huskies stay near the top despite going 2-2 at the NHSI. Other teams losing plus the fact one of their wins came against an Archbishop McCarthy team from Florida that was No. 1 in the nation by some is the reason.

8. (10) Clovis 14-2-1
Both losses by the Cougars have been to Buchanan and on Tuesday head coach James Patrick moved to No. 1 in CIF Central Section history with 709 wins.
