Stockton is becoming synonymous with knee injuries after State Freshman and State Sophomore of the Year Aquira DeCosta went down with a torn meniscus last week. Earlier in the week at the MLK Showcase, Sierra Smith, DeCosta’s former teammate now at Salesian, went down in a heap and later found out she tore her ACL. St. Mary’s all-state junior Naje Murray, meanwhile, is expected back from a knee injury she suffered last summer, but budding sophomore Rams’ star Nicole Young will not be returning from her knee injury until next season. Other than knee injuries, the key word this year seems to be “matchups” because everyone has holes and even the top teams now seem to be susceptible to being tested if they have a matchup problem.
