Football Team To Watch
Sierra (Manteca)

Last year’s team at Sierra was obviously stronger than this one, but due to the complicating factors of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section playoff system had to play in Division III and lost to Rio Linda in the quarterfinals. The D3 bracket is even more loaded this year, especially with Central Catholic of Modesto going up into it and with unbeaten Placer having to be in it as well. Sierra, meanwhile, fell into D4 and after just getting into the playoffs at 5-5 now looks like a D4 title contender. The Timberwolves are playing No. 2 seed Calaveras of San Andreas on Friday (top seed Lathrop has already been eliminated) and appear to have a shot with junior QB Mark Vicente playing his best of the season and with 1,000-yard rusher Mark Paule Jr. always a threat to break long plays.
