Two of the five players from California chosen for this year’s McDonald’s All-American Game are Stanley Johnson of Santa Ana Mater Dei and Mariya Moore of Richmond Salesian. Both of their teams also remain at No. 1 and No. 8 in this week’s State Top 20.
Folsom basketball shows that school isn’t just about pass-happy football team with win over Jesuit and is now a newcomer into the State Top 20. For the girls, no changes other than one rival from San Francisco replacing the other in the No. 20 position.

NEW BOYS BASKETBALL
TOP 20 OVERALL RANKINGS
Red-hot Chino Hills and Capital Christian of Sacramento have cracked the top 10 of this week’s Cal-Hi Sports State Top 20.
Helping the cause for those two teams is previous No. 8 Monte Vista of Danville suffering its first loss of the season. The Mustangs, however, remain in the overall State Top 20 because of their overall resume, including an earlier win over No. 16 Serra of Gardena.
The Nike Extravaganza, held annually for many years at Mater Dei, didn’t dramatically change the State Top 20 as all the higher ranked teams in the matchups at the event won their showcase games.
The lone newcomer this week is Folsom, which recorded a big win over Jesuit of Carmichael last week. The Bulldogs are looking more and more like they could add a CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I title in boys basketball to the football crown they won just a couple of months ago.

TOP 20 OVERALL RANKINGS
It wasn’t that there were any teams that lost from last week’s rankings, but none of the losses were enough to cause any changes this week — other than the ones that got us to switch from St. Ignatius of San Francisco to arch-rival Sacred Heart Cathedral for the No. 20 spot
No. 10 Sierra Canyon’s loss to league rival Windward, the state’s No. 2 team, was by the same margin as Windward’s win two weeks ago over No. 11 Etiwanda so there was no need to make a change there.
Then there was No. 18 Bishop’s of La Jolla, which actually played better against No. 2 Windward than Sierra Canyon did and gave the Wildcats a scare. Watch out for the Knights as freshman sensation Destiny Littleton gets back to full strength from an ongoing deep thigh contusion.

Cathedral High School (19-2) has drubbed Cantwell twice! Your rankings are suspect.
They will be changed next week to reflect that result.
