Three-point state records fall

Kelli Kamida from Keppel of Alhambra sets new mark for most 3-point baskets made in a girls game while on the boys it’s a new record for most 3-pointers by one team as Valley Christian of Roseville connects for 33.

After going through files from the last several seasons, it’s been confirmed that junior Kelli Kamida from Keppel of Alhambra and the Valley Christian of Roseville boys team have set new reported state records earlier this week for 3-point shooting.

Kamida made 16 from beyond the arc in Keppel’s 90-50 victory over Montebello on Wednesday night in a Almont League contest. According to the Pasadena Star-News, she made 11 in the first half and her teammates then continued to feed her the ball. She has been shooting more from long-range lately due to an injury to teammate Kyrstin Nakamura. Kamida also finished with 48 points.

The previous state record of 14 was set in 1992 by Danielle Viglione from Del Campo of Fair Oaks in a 118-33 victory over Rio Linda. The previous CIF Southern Section mark of 13 was set in 1994 by Sarah Hagman from Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta.

While the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section loses one state record with Kamida passing Viglione, the section is gaining one with the Valley Christian of Roseville boys.

In a game played on Tuesday night, Valley Christian bombarded Sacramento Country Day 107-49 and made 33 of 109 on 3-point shots. That sounds insane and it’s questionable because Sacramento Country Day is a team with just one win on the season, but the Lions are running the same system used by Grinnell College in Iowa, which is creating similar statistics for the team and individual Jack Taylor.

Valley Christian’s total is superior to the previous state record of 29 set in 2007 by Huntington Beach Marina in a 103-59 win against Norwalk. For several years in the late 2000s, Marina used a similar system. The Vikings also had 28 3-pointers made in two other games.

According to Ike Dodson of the Roseville Press-Tribune, Valley Christian’s previous best as a team was 22 for one game twice – both earlier this season. Daniel Milligan was the Lions’ leading scorer in the game with 30 points. He made 10-of-29 on 3-point shots.

Hi Mark. This is Josh Butters, sports reporter at the Hanford Sentinel. Saw this and I think Kamida’s night only tied the what should be a state record.

Here’s a link to the box score of a Hanford High girls game a few years back where Taylor Spikes also hit 16 3s

      Mark,
The record is 17 3 pointers in a game by Taylor Spikes from Hanford High School. You can confirm with coach Tom Parrish or Hanford High School. The previous post was incorrect at 16 but the box score provided is correct.

Tom Parrish isn’t there anymore so we’ll need confirmation from a newspaper article.
Thanks, MT. Please email the info to markjtennis@gmail.com.

Wondering if my son broke any records when he hit 9 threes in the first half and 11 threes for the game as a freshman playing for Winters?

We don’t have a category for threes in one half, but may add someday.
Can tell you that there are no freshmen who have ever made 12 threes in a game so at the minimum 11 could be a state freshman record tie. Our list stops at 12 so don’t know if there is another freshman somewhere & sometime who had 11.

Saddiq Alarbesh hit 12 threes in the division 6 state tournament semifinal game against Valley Christian 3/4/2023 and finished with 38.
