10. (NR) Desert (Edwards) 9-3
Drops: Previous No. 9 Holtville due to enrollment update (above 500 and not below 500).
Other eligible teams for CIF bowl game: None.
**Note: Christian (El Cajon) being listed D4 South for now so users can see where the team would rank if it wins its court case against the CIF. At least now that Bakersfield Christian has knocked off Mission Oak in the CIF Central Section, there is a hot team on the board for this division in the south. View Park has won its Saturday afternoon game against Poly of Sun Valley 46-13 in the L.A. City D3 final. View Park is now officially on the board for this division, which means the CIF would not be looking up to D3 to take a team with an enrollment above 500.

If strength of schedule is as importantas has been implied on this site many times in the oast, I just do not understand how Manteca can be ranked below Enterprise. Is there any explanation other than trying to placate the folks up north?

Manteca, remember, has a loss, and Wilcox of Santa Clara is clearly ranked behind St. Francis in the CCS. If it’s only about strength of schedule, Manteca is out behind St. Francis. Manteca really needs SF to lose tonight to Los Gatos. D2 North is going to be the beast of all division votes tomorrow. Anybody of the top four (other than probably Casa Grande) has a legitmate case to be picked.

By the rules set by the CIF, Manteca should not be getting a regional bid. Milpitas has a win over the same Wilcox team that beat the Buffaloes and Los Gatos has a win over Milpitas. That’s two teams ahead of Manteca with only two available slots.

Actually, if you look at the SoS of Los Gatos, it’s compelling. They played three section division finalists and went 3-1 against them.

Miramonte has win over an undefeated team, which the CIF voters tend to like.

It really should be Enterprise vs. either Los Gatos or Miramonte, if the voters follow their own rules.

          A couple of questions:

          1. @Mark Tennis – If it comes out Manteca vs. Enterprise are you really going to predict Enterprise as the winner? I’m shocked that you continue to rank Enterprise above Manteca and would love to hear your reasons.

          2. @Cal14 – Like I posted in the Norcal Projections- If Los Gatos>Milpitas and Milpitas>Wilcox, isn’t Los Gatos>Wilcox? Since that’s obviously not the case (42-7), why can’t Manteca then say that they have an infinitely better loss to Wilcox than Los Gatos (by one when they went for two to win it)?

If Los Gatos beat Wilcox, you’d be 100% correct. Since they didn’t, it’s a beauty contest and the fact is that Manteca has romped this year in a historically tough league and section except for a narrow loss to a very good team…

Enterprise has done nothing to be dropped behind Manteca and early in the playoffs Manteca had that questionable game where they almost lost to Central Valley. Don’t know who we’ll pick to win if they play. Enterprise has just as many big guys as Manteca, believe it or not and actually don’t know if any of the Manteca OLs are going to the Pac-12. Enterprise has one who is.

I suppose if you think they’re ahead to begin with, there’s no reason to drop them as they keep demolishing teams from the north. I’m just not sure how they got ahead of Manteca, Miramonte, or Los Gatos to begin with. I’d consider them a distant fourth in that group based on the Oakdale game, but maybe I’m basing too much on that game. I guess we’ll see…

Keep up the great work and my cheap shot about the undefeated teams was intended for Cal14. Anyway, everyone knew what was intended either way. I was just being an arse…

Well enterprise is undefeated and like mark said there line is as good or better than mantecas and the skill players for enterprise there is 4 of them that can break it who are u going to defend maybe underestimating them is a good thing we all know who follows them what they are capable of good luck

Has Bakersfield High School ever been considered for a State Bowl game ever. I have been following their game this season and witnessed great coaching and the players on the field showed exemplary sportsmanship. You know they won Valley Championship title last night against Clovis North, 60-21. Just thought I’d throw their name out there in case they got overlooked.

    • Mark Tennis
      Posted December 7, 2013 at 2:22 pm | Permalink

I believe Bakersfield was on the board and unbeaten or with one loss before. The Drillers have never been in a state bowl game and we’ve been itching for them to get in there given their fantastic history. They won’t be overlooked on Sunday. After last night, I think they are in and would play Mission Hills next.

This is ridiculous. The D4 teams would have one less day of film prep for the bowl game. This would be particularly difficult for the traveling team. Here’s hoping San Marcos wins tonight, and everything can be settled tomorrow.

The drillers have not been since restarted the state games. They do have I believe 7 state and 36 valley titles over their 100 yrs of football

If Christian of El Cajon’s appeal isn’t heard until Monday, then does that mean the selection for D4 in the south could be postponed until after the hearing?

Serra losing is just poetic justice. They didn’t deserve the bid last year and choked it away this year. Great job by their coach giving Chaminade an extra 15 yards crying to the refs. Nice Phillip Rivers act. You reap what you sew!!

Mark, do you think the SDS will have a true open division with 16 teams (regardless of enrollment) like the SS? It would definitely be interesting to know who the best in the section would be.

    • Rom

The Southern California Regional Open Division is open to all teams in Southern California in the Southern Section, San Diego Section, LA City and Central Section teams regardless of enrollment.

The SS does not have a true Open Division, not even close. It’s the five top leagues and that doesn’t include the Big VIII League from the Inland Empire or a couple of others from out there.

You know this stuff as well as anyone. It’s not too hard to follow which teams are bowl eligible. There is way more things to comment upon or disagree with. They are bowl game rankings, the teams are divided up according to bowl game placement. Simple as that.

It just gives fans and coaches, etc., a snapshot of perhaps how good certain bowl eligible teams. It would make sense if all section playoff divisions were equal in strength. But they are not so hence we rank the teams accordingly.
