All-State Baseball: Medium, Small

These are players who were outstanding while playing for California high schools that were considered Division III, Division IV or Division V for the state rankings. This is the 33rd consecutive year for Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams in baseball.

Note: The first Cal-Hi Sports e-book, “California: The Baseball Capital of the World” is now available on Amazon, iTunes and other on-line e-book stores such as Kobo and Barnes & Noble. One of the most difficult positions to choose for the all-state teams in baseball is catcher.

In some groups of players, such as with this year’s Cal-Hi Sports all-state small schools’ team, the trick is simply finding enough catchers to choose from that boast of having legitimate all-state type of credentials.

Then there are other groups of players, such was with this year’s Cal-Hi Sports all-state medium schools’ team, and the problem is that there were so many outstanding catchers on the board that admittedly a couple of very good ones just weren’t able to be chosen.

Here are the 2013 Cal-Hi Sports All-State Baseball Teams for Medium Schools and Small Schools:

Medium Schools First Team Catchers

Jack Kruger (Oaks Christian, Westlake Village) Sr.
Dom Miroglio (Bishop O’Dowd, Oakland) Sr.
Joey Notch (West, Torrance) Sr.
Zack Perugi (Kimball, Tracy) Sr.
John Riley (Willow Glen, San Jose) Sr.

As a junior, we saw Bishop O'Dowd baseball standout Dom Miroglio get his name into the football state record book by throwing a 99-yard touchdown pass.

Jake is on the overall all-state team. For this group, we had him classified as large school based on the league Garces plays in.
