BOYS BASKETBALL

Jamir Andrews & JoJo McGlaston (Dublin)
We were in Dublin on Tuesday night for a Dublin vs. Miramonte of Orinda boys-girls doubleheader and it was McGlaston, a talented senior, who took over the final game of the night as he scored from long range and on some impressive dunks to finish with 40 points as the Gaels beat the Matadors 83-62. Andrews, meanwhile, had a huge outing last week in a 86-72 win over Campolindo of Moraga. He hit 6-of-10 from beyond the arc and finished with 31 points.

Carlos Ayala (Vincent Memorial, Calexico)
In a 77-38 victory against Julian, Ayala sparkled with 29 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and seven steals. His scoring average also climbed to 21.2 points per game.

Jacob Araya (Stockton Christian)
This sophomore guard has been consistently reaching past 20 points in games this season and last week went for 35 for the Eagles in their 76-68 triumph over Delta Charter of Stockton.

Jamal Aytes (JSerra, San Juan Capistrano)
After back to back 10-point performances, the Aytes exploded for a season-high 31 points but it was in a losing effort as the Lions lost to Orange Lutheran and fellow state stat star Payton Banks by a 77-71 final score.

Payton Banks (Orange Lutheran)
Out dueling Jamal Aytes of JSerra, Banks scored a game-high 34 points as the Lancers were victorious 77-71. Banks, a 6-foot-6 small forward, has signed a letter of intent with Penn State.

Junior Basmagian (Liberty, Brentwood)
He dropped in 32 points, but the Lions lost to their cross-town arch rivals from Heritage, 81-73, their first loss in the last four meetings.

Danny Cabrera (Surprise Valley, Cedarville)
The senior guard had the top outing of the week from the CIF Northern Section with 35 points and 13 steals in his team’s 71-40 romp past Happy Camp. Cabrera is averaged 26.2 points per game.

Jalen Canty (St. Patrick St. Vincent, Vallejo)
The 6-foot-7, 230-pound power forward had his way in the paint against Palma, finishing with a double-double 23 points and 14 rebounds, in a 71-49 rout of the Chieftains at the De La Salle Martin Luther King Holiday Classic at Cal.

Jimmy Golden (Sonora, La Habra)
When the ball left his hands, it often turned to gold as he scored 29 points and the Raiders defeated Troy of Fullerton 80-33.

Dustin Houck (Ventura)
A returnee from Ventura’s outstanding team from last season, Houck had to be disappointed after he scored a game-high 36 points in a game last week because the Cougars blew a nine-point lead in regulation and suffered a 74-72 loss in overtime to Buena of Ventura.

Tristan Hunter (Perris)
Just a sophomore, he nearly helped end Elsinore of Wildomar’s 34-game league winning streak as he scored 29 points for the Tigers in their 52-51 Sunbelt League loss.

Darin Johnson (Sheldon, Sacramento)
The University of Washington-bound standout came up huge for the Huskies as he scored 19 points in the third quarter and finished with a career-high 42 points to lead them past Deer Valley of Antioch 97-92 to remain at No. 3 in this week’s state rankings.

Leland King (Brentwood, Los Angeles)
Every one of his 32 points was needed as the No. 14 state-ranked Eagles went on the road and defeated Paraclete of Lancaster 76-73.

Nicolas Knoebber (Mendocino)
There aren’t many kids 6-foot-6 way up behind the Redwood Curtain, so maybe that’s why Knoebber went for 22 rebounds (15 points, six steals, five assists) for the second time this season, and a fourth 20-rebound performance of the year, in a 74-30 win over Covelo Round Valley.

Tanner Lancona (Tesoro, Rancho Santa Margarita)
With the Titans seemingly alternating wins and losses the last few weeks, he scored 32 points in their 66-61 loss to Aliso Niguel of Aliso Viejo.

Marcus Lee (Deer Valley, Antioch)
After seeing him live at the MLK Day event at Cal it was obvious to the Cal-Hi Sports Caravan why the 6-foot-10 center is going to Kentucky. He started last week with a 20-point, 21-rebound, seven-block, and six-assist performance in an 82-74 win over Brentwood Heritage. Despite only playing a few minutes in a 75-12 win over cross-town Antioch, his state leading rebounding 19.6 per game average was hurt when he only snagged 11, but his double-digit streak for all 19 Wolverines games stayed intact. Then in a wild 92-97 loss at Sacramento Sheldon, Lee dropped in 30 points (12 dunks) and snared 15 rebounds with eight blocks. Then, at Cal, in an even wilder finish than the loss, he had 20 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks and the Wolverines won in the final seconds, 55-54, over Newark Memorial.

Ron Lee Jr. (Oak Park, Agoura Hills)
He has had higher scoring games this season than the 19 points he scored against St. Bonaventure of Ventura, but he also had 11 assists and 10 rebounds to finish with a triple-double in Oak Park’s 75-58 win in Tri-Valley League play.

Leondre Lintz (Monterey Trail, Elk Grove)
Despite his scoring 35 points, the Mustangs were unable to pick up their first league win of the season as they fell against Davis 96-91 in overtime.

Shakor Major (Washington Union, Easton)
He scored a career high of 35 points, making 15-of-21 from the free throw line, and pulled down 17 rebounds in a 56-53 win over Chowhchilla. Shakor also scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds last week in a league win over Kerman.

Josh McAfee (Tokay, Lodi)
It’s believed that McAfee posted one of the top totals in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section history by burying 10 three-pointers for the Tigers in their 75-62 overtime win last Friday against McNair of Stockton. McAfee, who finished with 31 points in all, doesn’t make the state record book because the lowest total in the book is 12. However, there are no others in the section who have ever made 12 so it has to rank high.

Max McCone (Novato)
The 6-foot-3 senior forward, and leading scorer in the Redwood Empire from schools bigger than D6 (25.2 ppg), registered his 11th double-double of the season, after scoring 27 points with 12 rebounds in a 54-47 win over San Rafael Terra Linda.

Cheikh Ndiaye (Army-Navy, Carlsbad)
Perhaps the best individual performance in the state on MLK Day was the triple-double by the 7-foot-1 Ndiaye in Army-Navy’s 67-61 win against Cathedral Catholic of San Diego. Cathedral Catholic came into the game ranked No. 1 in San Diego, but Ndiaye was too much with 22 points, 25 rebounds and 10 blocks. Teammate Darin Watson also shined with 29 points.

Elliott Pitts (De La Salle, Concord)
In the most points scored by De La Salle since 1997 and the second most in school history, the 6-foot-5 Arizona-bound guard had 27 points and nine rebounds in a 91-54 win at Livermore Granada. Pitts also had a game high 21 points (seven rebounds) on MLK Day at Cal, but the Spartans couldn’t hold on in a 47-43 loss to Salesian of Richmond.

Colin Slater (Clovis North, Clovis)
Just a freshman, Slater set a school record by scoring 36 points in a 80-74 win over Clovis West. Sophomore Michael Orlich, son of head coach Tom Orlich, led Clovis West with 31 points.

Kameron Smith (Emery, Emeryville)
He makes the honor roll feature again after going for 31 points in a blowout of Fremont Christian, his fifth 30-point performance of the season.

Kendall Smith (Deer Valley, Antioch)
The UNLV-bound guard fouling out almost cost the team a 55-54 victory over Newark Memorial on MLK Day at Cal, but last week he shined with two double-doubles, registering 25 points and 11 assists in a 82-74 win over Brentwood Heritage, and 31 points and 12 assists in a road loss to state No. 3 Sheldon of Sacramento.

Danny Tatnall (Buena, Ventura)
With several big buckets in the final minute of regulation to force overtime, Tatnall finished with 32 points, but it was teammate Kody Poe who hit a three-pointer with 1.9 seconds left for a 74-72 win for the Bulldogs over Ventura.

Andrew TenBrink (Huntington Beach)
Finding a way to get to the free throw line over and over again, he knocked down 17 of his 20 free-throw attempts on his way to scoring a game-high 29 points as the Oilers defeated Ocean View of Huntington Beach 79-61 after trailing 22-6 in the first quarter.

Evan Zeller (Mission Viejo)
He scored a game-high 32 points as the Diablos went on the road and defeated Tesoro of Rancho Santa Margarita 90-80 in South Coast League action. Earlier this season, Zeller set a school record with a 50-point game.

Ilan Zur (Summerfield Waldorf, Santa Rosa)
He continued his torrid pace as the reported CIF North Coast Section scoring leader and one of the top section’s top rebounders. Las week he had 26 and 13 rebounds, 27 points, and 30 points and 12 rebounds, in easy wins over Orinda Academy, Healdsburg Rio Lindo Adventist and Sausalito Marin, respectively.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jessica Carl (Mercy, Red Bluff)
The 6-foot-2 junior center must have 20/20 vision, which we could easily deduce since she had 20 points and 20 rebounds to lead her team to a 49-20 win over Los Molinos.

Megan Devlin (Contra Costa Christian, Walnut Creek)
The senior standout was devilishly good as she hit the 35-point mark for the second time this season by scoring 37 in a 59-34 win over Antioch Cornerstone Christian.

Ali Englehardt (Mt. Carmel, San Diego)
This 6-foot sophomore teams with freshman Casey McWilliams (17 ppg) to give the Sundevils a bright future. Englehardt shined last week with a season-high 33 points and also yanked down 19 rebounds in a 65-45 win against Torrey Pines of San Diego. She also upped her scoring average to just above 20 per game.

Geena Gomez (Edison, Huntington Beach)
For the second week in a row, Gomez finds herself listed here as this St. Joseph’s committed standout had 33 points and seven assists as the Chargers defeated Woodbridge of Irvine 70-66 in double overtime.

Gabby Green (St. Mary’s, Berkeley)
In one of her best outings of the season, the national-level junior recruit had 29 points, 12 rebounds and six steals in a 58-49 win over South Medford (Oregon) at the MLK event on Saturday in Stockton.

Ahlisha Henderson (Reseda)
It’s not often can you yawn about scoring 30 points like Ahlisha did in a 56-31 win over Panorama, but she has been averaging 32 points per game this season. She also recorded a huge double-double in the game as she recorded 35 rebounds for the second week in a row.

Maranne Johnson (Deer Valley, Antioch)
The junior guard had a career-high 31 points (eight rebounds, seven steals) in an 84-63 win over Elk Grove Pleasant Grove at the Saturday St. Mary’s MLK Showcase in Stockton

Ashley Kelsick (Highland, Palmdale)
With a four-game streak of scoring at least 40 points, Kelsick kept it alive and then some by pouring in 56 points for the Bulldogs when they beat Eastside of Palmdale 90-50. It marked the second time this season that Kelsick has scored 56 points in a game.

Megan Lee (Buchanan, Clovis)
In a tight 58-56 victory by the Bears over Central of Fresno, Lee scored a career high of 31 points.

Mariya Moore (Salesian, Richmond)
The 5-foot-11 junior phenom had a season high 37 points, including all six of her team’s points in overtime, with 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals, and the Pride needed it all to take down arch rival Berkeley St. Mary’s 62-59.

Beth Mounier (Oaks Christian, Westlake Village)
Outscoring Santa Clara of Oxnard on her own, Mounier scored a game-high 29 points to go with seven rebounds and six steals in the Lions’ 65-21 victory. She also just missed recording a triple-double in a 69-45 win over Nordhoff of Ojai as she scored 21 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had nine assists.

Courtney Range (Manteca)
The Buffaloes started the season just 5-5 but they have gone 8-1 since Range, who played last season at St. Mary’s of Stockton, has been able to take the court. That lone loss came by 54-52 on Monday to Benicia despite her scoring a season-high 29 points and grabbing 26 rebounds.

Julian Robinson & Raven Caldwell (Kennedy, Richmond)
Robinson, a 6-foot-1 junior, had 25 points and 16 rebounds with seven assists in a rout of Richmond De Anza, 26 and 10 in a win over Crockett Swett, and in the fourth game of a five-game MLK stretch, she had another double-double after registering 20 points and 23 rebounds in a 52-52 victory over host Pittsburg at the “Let Freedom Ring” MLK event last Saturday. Against Swett, Caldwell, a senior guard, had a triple-double 19 points, 15 assists and 10 rebounds, with seven steals. She had 16 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists against Pittsburg, and in the second MLK event the Eagles played, on Monday at Vallejo Jesse Bethel, Caldwell had a game-high 24 points in a thrashing of Stockton Edison.

Chrishae Rowe (Santiago, Corona)
In a game played earlier this week, Rowe resembled the first team all-state player she might be at season’s end as she scored 43 points to lead the Sharks past Centennial of Corona 78-45. Centennial wasn’t just some run-of-the-mill opponent, either. The Huskies also entered the game ranked among the top 20 overall in the state.

Savannah Scott (Westmont, Campbell)
The CIF Central Coast Section standout just missed a quadruple-double after registering a triple-double 25 points, 14 rebounds, 12 steals and eight assists in a 58-48 win over San Jose Leigh.

Tiara Tucker (Brookside Christian, Stockton)
The local Stockton Record reported earlier this week that with recent games of 63, 73 and 51 points that Tucker is averaging more than 60 per game over a three-game stretch. Unfortunately, it looks like the paper didn’t get a call when Tucker was held to six in a loss by Brookside Christian last Saturday to Bishop O’Dowd. She’s still averaging close to 30 per game and despite the up-and-down nature of the scoring remains a solid mid-major college prospect.

Celeste West (Garces, Bakersfield)
Just a freshman, West pumped in a personal high of 36 points in a 75-32 win over North of Bakersfield.

You know that Ashley Kelsick is the cousin of Detra Lockhart and Remitha Houston of Washington Prepratory High School in Los Angeles. CA. They were big basketball student athletes in 1990’s. I guess their families have a knack for basketball.
