Note: Congratulations to all 60 players who have been selected to one of the two 2012 Cal-Hi Sports all-state football teams for small schools. We consider those schools to be small if they were Division IV for the CIF state bowl games or if they were Division IV or Division V for our traditional five-division state rankings. That is why some schools that were Division III for the bowl games are small schools for all-state consideration. Thanks to all who sent in a nomination in support of these teams. This is the 34th year of Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams in football and all first-team honorees get listed in the state record book.

How did Joey Hall not make it as a WR (led the state in TD rec 24) #1 in Northeast Division in receiving – 60 rec 1365 yards 22.75 Yds/Rec 105.0 yards per game 24 TD’s – # 5 in all of Southern Section in receiving yards # 1 in average per catch. Joey had 3 INT and 2 kickoff returns for TD’s

Joey Hall was the third player we were considering from a Mission Prep team that did not win a section championship. In evaluating the players off of that team, Tyler Baty (the QB) was first since he was the SLO Tribune Player of the Year. The defensive lineman, Andrew Da Rosa, was next since he was a CIFSS divisional defensive player of the year. Hall was next, basically beaten out for first team by Carrington (Oregon recruit) and possibly the No. 1 receiver in the San Diego Section regardless of class. Sure, Joey had a great year, too. Just can’t find room for everybody.

No Akili Terry, RB from Marin Catholic seems surprising. He had an outstanding year and will likely earn a scholarship in the next few weeks. But great work on the list overall.

I wanted to know if QB Brandon Martinez from EL Monte made any of the all state teams. He threw for 4300 yards and 44tds ran for 793 yards and 8tds.

I am happy to see two of my friends on the final team list, they both had great seasons and are representing two of the smallest schools in SoCal to be playing 11-man football. Fink and Holguin. As for me, thank you for the nomination.

Coach, Brandon Martinez was first team All-State for Medium Schools. Congrats to Brandon and the entire El Monte program.

Props to J Wiser for recognizing Fink and Holguin. He too could have easily been on any of these teams in my opinion. The players at Rio Hondo Prep all say he is a good guy and it shows through his post. Sorry that we are not playing Boron in 2013, it was actually a fun rivalry while it lasted. Best of luck to you Jadrian and Boron football
